Devo Father Part 1
Malachi 1:6-9 (NIV)
6 “A son honors his father, and a slave his master. If I am a father, where is the honor due me? If I am a master, where is the respect due me?” says the Lord Almighty.
“It is you priests who show contempt for my name.
“But you ask, ‘How have we shown contempt for your name?’
7 “By offering defiled food on my altar.
“But you ask, ‘How have we defiled you?’
“By saying that the Lord’s table is contemptible. 8 When you offer blind animals for sacrifice, is that not wrong? When you sacrifice lame or diseased animals, is that not wrong? Try offering them to your governor! Would he be pleased with you? Would he accept you?” says the Lord Almighty.
9 “Now plead with God to be gracious to us. With such offerings from your hands, will he accept you?”—says the Lord Almighty.
I end my program “You and Me” each night with ‘don’t forget to call your father and mother’. I have been asked why, but have said little till now. Why? Because the way one sees their father is how they see God. How they treat their father is how they treat God. God was upset with the Jews because they were not showing Him the honor He should have. The food on the altar was the left overs of the flock. He was to have the first fruits or best of the flock. When we show our children that we don’t give our parents the respect and honor due them they won’t give God the respect and honor due Him. God is not impressed with left overs. He wants our best and He will give us His best. God’s table is to be honored. We bring the best to the table to eat with Him. He brought His best to the table. Communion is proof of that. We don’t bring it when it is convenient, but at the prescribed time. We should consider it an honor to drop everything and be with the Father. God was upset with His children and would not accept their offerings. Why? Because it taught the children to do the same and put them under a curse. We reap what we sow.
