Devo Don’t you know me Part 1
Luke 11:14-23 (NIV)
14 Jesus was driving out a demon that was mute. When the demon left, the man who had been mute spoke, and the crowd was amazed. 15 But some of them said, “By Beelzebub the prince of demons, he is driving out demons.” 16 Others tested him by asking for a sign from heaven.
17 Jesus knew their thoughts and said to them: “Any kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and a house divided against itself will fall. 18 If Satan is divided against himself, how can his kingdom stand? I say this because you claim that I drive out demons by Beelzebub 19 Now if I drive out demons by Beelzebub by whom do your followers drive them out? So then, they will be your judges. 20 But if I drive out demons by the finger of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.
21 “When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own house, his possessions are safe. 22 But when someone stronger attacks and overpowers him, he takes away the armor in which the man trusted and divides up his plunder.
23 “Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters.
This is one of the most disturbing bit of scriptures for me. Why? Because it was the church or religious leaders who tortured and nailed Jesus to the cross. The religious leaders were calling Jesus mad, Satan, and a demon. I often wondered if some of the people who were working with me were my enemies. They talked the talked, but where was the walk? There was no power in their lives to set the captive free. Jesus said by whom do you and your followers cast out demons. They could not. They had a form of Godliness but denied the power to cleanse and walk a holy life. These people were coming against the teachings and work of Jesus, so they were scattering not gathering in souls. They were being used to send people to hell, because of their own hard hearts which were looking for an excuse to cover the lack of God’s holiness and power in their lives. They did not want the things of God and denied His holiness in their live and so without His holiness they could not see God. They made up their own religion so as to justify their sin and mock those who knew God and His righteous requirements. Romans 1:21-23 (NIV) 21 For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles.
They have a form of Baalism or materialism in which that is all their religion comes down to. Name it claim it, but where is God’s righteous standard? Jesus be quiet, your messing up our gig here, I can hear them say. To glorify God is to live by His standards and a righteous life. A life worthy of His presence where no demon can dwell in the presence of Him. Their God is but an idol that looks like the things of this world. “ I have things therefore I am holy.” OH HOGWASH! That is what got the Jews in trouble. If you know Him you will look like Him. Not just a form but in His image.
