Devo Prosperity Part 16
Genesis 4:1-7 (NIV)
4 Adam[a] made love to his wife Eve, and she became pregnant and gave birth to Cain.[b] She said, “With the help of the Lord I have brought forth[c] a man.” 2 Later she gave birth to his brother Abel.
Now Abel kept flocks, and Cain worked the soil. 3 In the course of time Cain brought some of the fruits of the soil as an offering to the Lord. 4 And Abel also brought an offering—fat portions from some of the firstborn of his flock. The Lord looked with favor on Abel and his offering, 5 but on Cain and his offering he did not look with favor. So Cain was very angry, and his face was downcast.
6 Then the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast? 7 If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.”
Here we have both Cain and Abel bring offering to the Lord. One is accepted and one is not. One brother is blessed and one is not. Why? Well let’s start with where did it all come from to begin with? God of course. Abel is accepted because he gives the fat portions which means the best of what he has to God. Cain was not accepted because sin was crouching at his door and he was allowing it to stay. He was not obeying God. I have people getting mad at God for their financial situation or lack all the time. The problem is they don’t want to get rid of sin. They have a spirit of rebellion and idolatry. That is self-worship. They rather spend what they have on themselves than God. James 4:3 (NIV) 3 When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures. Our next lesson coming soon
