Devo Walking in faith Part 17
Matthew 5:17-22 (NIV)
17 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18 For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. 19 Therefore anyone who sets aside one of the least of these commands and teaches others accordingly will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20 For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.
21 “You have heard that it was said to the people long ago, ‘You shall not murder, and anyone who murders will be subject to judgment.’ 22 But I tell you that anyone who is angry with a brother or sister will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to a brother or sister, ‘Raca,’ is answerable to the court. And anyone who says, ‘You fool!’ will be in danger of the fire of hell.
You should read the rest of this chapter if you get a chance. Jesus comes and says hey it is not enough to do these things you should not even have ill feelings or think about it. You must be holy as I am holy. Now how are we going to do that? You mean not only do I have to obey the law my heart has to be totally pure? Yes! Now I know I am in trouble how about you? You don’t need to answer.
Jesus came to fulfill the law in us not do away with it. Now sure I agree that the law surrounding the sacrifices is done away with for no more sacrifice is needed Jesus did that, but the moral law will endure till everything is accomplished. Now there are those who believe everything is accomplished. Lord Jesus open their eyes. Really! Wake up! If this is it count me out. I don’t like this world. Jesus says we must not set aside these commands till it’s over and if we teach others to do so we will be lease in God’s kingdom. We will even be in danger of hell.
Wait just a minute pastor. Jesus died that I would be forgiven and took away my sin and shame. No further sacrifice is needed. I am clean before God through the blood of Jesus. It is by grace right? Yes, but wait there is more. More? He did more than give us forgiveness. What more do I need? To be continued.
