Devo Why am I on this merry go round?
Galatians 6:7 (NIV)
7 Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.
I remember when I was a child hearing an adult seeming to brag how poor they were when they were young. They went on and on about clothes, only one pair of shoes and how they carried them to school so not to wear them out. Then they made a statement that struck me as strange. They said: “Well at least we never went hungry. We had beans. Beans for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We may have had nothing else, but we had beans to eat, but some had nothing. I got tired of beans, but it was better than going hungry.” I could not have been more than six and I stood there in bewilderment. They lived on a hundred acre farm. I thought well why didn’t you plant something else. It may have been better than going hungry, but why so many beans. Now, I was a child and I wasn’t trying to be smart. I just couldn’t comprehend why you would plant nothing but beans. Well that’s the way we always did it. That’s just what we planted. They said. Albert Einstein would say: “The definition of insanity is to do the same thing over again and expect a different result.” Looking back I can see that same mentality was carried over to every area of their life. That is why they were poor. They just kept planting the same thing over and over again expecting to have a different result. A rich man once told me: “If you want to be rich hang out with the rich and do what they do.” Good advice if you want to be rich, but what if you want more?
Well if you want to be like Jesus then fill your heart with His word. Hang out with Him, and His friends. I wanted to be like Smith Wiglesworth, John G. Lake or the Apostles. I want to be like Jesus, so I spend time with Him. I study God’s word, went to Bible college, hang out with believing Christians. My wife and I have planted churches and I worked a business on the side to pay the bills. Businesses would not always go so well, but we saw healing and salvations. I didn’t go to business college. I didn’t want to be a business man so that’s not what I planted. Some say you are what you eat. I agree. You reap what you sow. Do you want change in your life? Then change what you plant, be patient, and it will grow in due season. Then it will produce, but don’t complain if you keep planting the same crop. Now whose fault is that? God’s or yours. God expects us to grow up. People call me to pray their life changes. I need money, healing, a better marriage, and so forth, but they keep doing what they always have done. I see God deliver them, only to have them return to their vomit. Change what you plant and be careful to nurture it.
Mark 4:26-29 (NIV) 26 He also said, “This is what the kingdom of God is like. A man scatters seed on the ground. 27 Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how. 28 All by itself the soil produces grain—first the stalk, then the head, then the full kernel in the head. 29 As soon as the grain is ripe, he puts the sickle to it, because the harvest has come.”
Want a new harvest in your life? Stop planting the old seed and plant what you want to harvest.
