Devo Why tongues Part 18
2 Timothy 3:16 (NIV) 16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 2 Corinthians 3:7-11 (NIV) 7 Now if the ministry that brought death, which was engraved in letters on stone, came with glory, so that the Israelites could not look steadily at the face of Moses because of its glory, transitory though it was, 8 will not the ministry of the Spirit be even more glorious? 9 If the ministry that brought condemnation was glorious, how much more glorious is the ministry that brings righteousness! 10 For what was glorious has no glory now in comparison with the surpassing glory. 11 And if what was transitory came with glory, how much greater is the glory of that which lasts! Acts 19:13-16 (NIV) 13 Some Jews who went around driving out evil spirits tried to invoke the name of the Lord Jesus over those who were demon-possessed. They would say, “In the name of the Jesus whom Paul preaches, I command you to come out.” 14 Seven sons of Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, were doing this. 15 One day the evil spirit answered them, “Jesus I know, and Paul I know about, but who are you?” 16 Then the man who had the evil spirit jumped on them and overpowered them all. He gave them such a beating that they ran out of the house naked and bleeding. All scripture was given to man by the Holy Spirit. It was spoken to us so we might speak it and know it. It is not enough to simply know and speak it. You must have the authority from the author to use it. The Old Covenant had glory, but it was written in stone and brought death and condemnation. The New Covenant brought life. When Paul spoke to the demons they obeyed him, because he had authority to speak God’s word by the Holy Spirit. They seven sons of a Jewish priest had no authority and were not obeyed. See next lesson 19. Pastor Jeff Lane
