Devo Are matches made in heaven?
Genesis 24:64-67 (NIV)
64 Rebekah also looked up and saw Isaac. She got down from her camel 65 and asked the servant, “Who is that man in the field coming to meet us?”
“He is my master,” the servant answered. So she took her veil and covered herself.
66 Then the servant told Isaac all he had done. 67 Isaac brought her into the tent of his mother Sarah, and he married Rebekah. So she became his wife, and he loved her; and Isaac was comforted after his mother’s death.
Abraham sends his servant on an errand to get his son Isaac a wife. I know today we don’t do things this way, but nevertheless this was how they went about it. The servant prays when he reaches the destination and asks God to give him success and God leads Rebekah and the servant to each other. It is because of Rebekah’s and the servant’s integrity that they both have success in this most important matter. Integrity and character are the most important ingredients for marriage. I often will have people pray that they find a godly mate, but you have to be one to find one. Anyway God hears the servant’s prayer and he takes Rebecca home to Isaac. It was love at first sight. God knows what and whom we need and there will be love. God cares who we marry. I guess I am partial to this love story because of Rebekah’s name.
