Devo Are matches made in heaven? Part 2
Genesis 6:1-3 (NIV)
6 When men began to increase in number on the earth and daughters were born to them, 2 the sons of God saw that the daughters of humans were beautiful, and they married any of them they chose. 3 Then the Lord said, “My Spirit will not contend with humans forever, for they are mortal; their days will be a hundred and twenty years.”
Is the choice of who you marry up to you? No and yes. No because we should leave that up to God. Yes because like eating of the forbidden fruit it can lead to destruction of our life, our offspring’s lives, society, the nation, and the world. People seem to think: Oh Mr. or Mrs. right will magically appear.” No but lust does. Much prayer and thought should go into who God’s has chosen for us. I remember a man telling my dad once concerning a relative’s answer for getting married. “Sure he’s in love so was I and a half a dozen times after I got married too.” He had no idea what Love was. It not a feeling, but feelings come with it. It is a decision of the mind. It tells the heart what to do. It is an act of character. It is integrity. Feeling can come and go, but integrity can last a lifetime. Love grows and bring life but lust brings death and destruction. Consider what pornography does to one’s life. It can take integrity, bring shame, take your job, marriage, family, sexual enjoyment, make you alone instead of intimacy, and so much more. It a silent killer. What you do in the privacy of your life does affect others. So I ask you should we make that choice or let God?
