Devo Are matches made in heaven Part 3
2 Samuel 11:1-5 (NIV)
11 In the spring, at the time when kings go off to war, David sent Joab out with the king’s men and the whole Israelite army. They destroyed the Ammonites and besieged Rabbah. But David remained in Jerusalem.
2 One evening David got up from his bed and walked around on the roof of the palace. From the roof he saw a woman bathing. The woman was very beautiful, 3 and David sent someone to find out about her. The man said, “She is Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam and the wife of Uriah the Hittite.” 4 Then David sent messengers to get her. She came to him, and he slept with her. (Now she was purifying herself from her monthly uncleanness.) Then she went back home. 5 The woman conceived and sent word to David, saying, “I am pregnant.”
Pornography, why don’t we see people or the government try to stop it or talk about it?
David was not where he was supposed to be. He was to supposed to be at the head of his army protecting Israel. Instead he stayed home and became bored. It was at this moment that Satan struck. Just one look. Don’t tell me one look can’t do any harm. That’s the problem people believe that just one bite won’t hurt. Really! Well let’s see. One look led to adultery. One look led to an unwanted pregnancy. One look led to lying, murder, and the death of a baby. It led to loss of respect, brought shame, and rebuke. One look destroyed many lives and eventually led to a civil war and death of many more. So I ask you can one look matter? Can God turn it around? I don’t think David intended to have any more to do with Bathsheba than a one night stand, but he finally acted in integrity and owned up to his sin. He married Bathsheba and God blessed them with a son of righteousness. He became a gift to his father and mother and to the nation not to mention us to this day. Did this (Solomon) son struggle with the sin of his father and mother? Yes and in a big way, but he also came back to the integrity of his father and mother. Think about it.
How does one overcome a pornography addiction? Repent and own up to it. Find a person who can be trusted and make yourself accountable to them. Give them access to your phone, computer, and every area of your life. Not someone of the opposite sex unless it is your mate, but I still recommend it be someone outside your marriage. Someone who will be straight with you. Be where you are supposed to be. Leave doors open. Don’t be alone. Spend as much time with your mate and family as possible. If alone or bored seek God, pray, fast, praise, but find God or call your mate. Don’t trust yourself, get new friends if need be. Turn off TV, computer, stay away from the prostitute’s corner so to speak.
Consider what pornography does to one’s life. It can take integrity, bring shame, take your job, marriage, family, sexual enjoyment, make you alone instead of giving intimacy, and so much more. It promises you much but reduces you to a loaf of bread. It’s not worth one look. Be content with what God has given you and you will be blessed. Become a person of integrity and God will lift you up. Start NOW!
