Devo It is time to grow up in the Faith Part Nine
1 John 4:17-20 (NIV)
17 This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus. 18 There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.
19 We love because he first loved us. 20 Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen.
With the law comes punishment, but with love comes joy. We no longer fear punishment because love fulfills the requirements of the law. Now if we continue to walk in fear then love is not in us. Simply put we are still looking inward not out. If we hate our brothers the love of God is not in us and we still live in fear of punishment. If we hate we have not forgiven and we want punishment for our brothers not love and grace. It we do not forgive we can’t be forgiven. Pastor Jeff Lane

1 John 4:13-16 (NIV)
13 This is how we know that we live in him and he in us: He has given us of his Spirit. 14 And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. 15 If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in them and they in God. 16 And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.
Romans 8:5-11 (NIV)
5 Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. 6 The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. 7 The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. 8 Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God.
9 You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ. 10 But if Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life because of righteousness. 11 And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you.
We seem to run in a circle here. We come back to walking in the Spirit. If Jesus is in you must become obedient to His Spirit, but not out of obligation but out of love. Love obeys Him because we respond to His love with love. We love Him because he loved us first. We give our lives over to Him because He gave us His. We naturally walk in obedience to the law because we no longer live for ourselves but for Him. We know good and evil because we know Him who is good therefore we know if it is not Him it is evil.

John 3:16 (NIV)
16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
Acts 2:38 (NIV)
38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
1 John 4:9-12 (NIV)
9 This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. 10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 11 Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 12 No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.
We want to know love and to know love we must know God, but how? We simply repent. Turn
around and walk toward God. We believe in Him and He receives us. He sent His son to die in our place that we might know Him. We must now do the same and lay our lives down for others. It says if God lives in us we will love our brothers. A child matures when it stops thinking about one’s self and starts considering others. Love is to consider others. We give up our self for the benefit of others. We know if God is in us when we love or lay down our lives for others. We fulfill the requirements of the law when we die to ourselves for others. That my friend is the love of God. That is growing up in maturing in Christ. It is the knowing of good and evil. Good thinks of others, Evil thinks only of one’s self.

1 John 4:7-8 (NIV)
7 Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. 8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.
So God is love. I must know God to know love and to walk in love. Love is both an action and a noun. God is love. His character is love so god loves us. How does God love us?

Romans 13:8-10 (NIV)
8 Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law. 9 The commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not covet,” and whatever other command there may be, are summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” 10 Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.
It would seem that if love is the fulfillment of the law then I must know love and how to love to know good from evil. It’s seems clear to me to fulfill the law I must walk in love. Easy enough, but what or who is love? Let’s continue…

Romans 3:19-20 (NIV)
19 Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world held accountable to God. 20 Therefore no one will be declared righteous in God’s sight by the works of the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of our sin.
Romans 3:23 (NIV)
23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
Romans 2:13 (NIV)
13 For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous in God’s sight, but it is those who obey the law who will be declared righteous.
Can knowing good and evil come from knowing the law? Can knowing good and evil be enough to make us righteous? The law only make us aware or conscious of evil or sin. We can’t obey the law so it becomes sin for us. We need to have the righteous requirements of the law in us to reap a Godly harvest. No, we need more...
