Devo Don’t sweat the small stuff or not
Luke 13:18-21 (NIV)
18 Then Jesus asked, “What is the kingdom of God like? What shall I compare it to? 19 It is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his garden. It grew and became a tree, and the birds perched in its branches.”
20 Again he asked, “What shall I compare the kingdom of God to? 21 It is like yeast that a woman took and mixed into about sixty pounds of flour until it worked all through the dough.”
It is the little decisions and things in life that seem to cause the biggest problems. Like a little acorn that very slowly grows into a might oak, so it is with the little things in our lives. It is the little things we ignore, justify, over look that someday take over. Who would have thought sharing a piece of fruit would one day cause famines, disasters, wars, and so much pain. It was one seemingly insignificant moment of rebellion, sowing of oats, letting our hair down, that led to so much destruction. People tend to blame God or the devil, but it’s our fault. Like an alcoholic who started with only one drink, we can’t seem to say I did this. The above verse is sandwiched between Jesus coming against the synagogue rulers and walking the narrow road to life. A false teaching or a wrong turn can bring down a mighty saint. It takes so little. You see anyone can see the big things in life, but it is the small things that get entangled in every area of our life that can destroy us. I say watch for the small things and the rest will take care of itself. People say you’re being ridiculous, petty, or over reacting, did I mention fruit? Keep the yeast out of the dough. Have you ever wondered why we use unleavened bread for communion?
