Devo Don’t you know me Part 3
John 10:1-6 (NIV)
10 “Very truly I tell you Pharisees, anyone who does not enter the sheep pen by the gate, but climbs in by some other way, is a thief and a robber. 2 The one who enters by the gate is the shepherd of the sheep. 3 The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. 4 When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice. 5 But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will run away from him because they do not recognize a stranger’s voice.” 6 Jesus used this figure of speech, but the Pharisees did not understand what he was telling them.
I remember a missionary telling me a story about shepherds in the Middle East. He watched as they brought their sheep to the watering hole. The sheep would intermingle and drink together as the shepherds would talk to one another. Then when the sheep were done the shepherds would go to different places and call out. The sheep would hear his shepherd’s voice and go to their shepherd. Those who belong to God hear their shepherd’s voice and follow Him. They do as he does. They know he is the one who will do what is best for them. If you know Him you will do as He does. You won’t listen to a stranger, but will walk where He walked. The religious leaders could not understand this because they did not know His voice. They never heard it before. Jesus smelled like the sheep and the sheep smelled like Him. Where you find Jesus you will find the sheep and where you find the sheep you will find Him.
