Devo His Presence
Exodus 33:21-23 (NIV)
21 Then the Lord said, “There is a place near me where you may stand on a rock. 22 When my glory passes by, I will put you in a cleft in the rock and cover you with my hand until I have passed by. 23 Then I will remove my hand and you will see my back; but my face must not be seen.”
Exodus 34:33-35 (NIV)
33 When Moses finished speaking to them, he put a veil over his face. 34 But whenever he entered the Lord’s presence to speak with him, he removed the veil until he came out. And when he came out and told the Israelites what he had been commanded, 35 they saw that his face was radiant. Then Moses would put the veil back over his face until he went in to speak with the Lord.
Moses wanted God’s presence to go with him and Israel. He wanted to see God’s glory. God tells him to stand in the cleft of the rock and He will pass by with His hand over Moses, then He will remove His hand. The literal Hebrew here is Moses will see the residue of God’s glory left from where He had been. Then Moses goes down the mountain side and some of that residue still remained on Moses. He shown with God’s glory so much so he had to wear a veil so the Israelites could approach Him. Not only that but the presence of God went with him and Israel. Because it was during these times with God he was given the word of the Lord for the people, and the word remains among us till this day. Jesus is the word. One must spend time in the presence of God to get the word of the Lord and have that residue remain on you. People, demons, and Satan know when you have been in God’s presence. Now if you are going to be in ministry you must spend time with God. Jesus often withdrew to lonely places to be with the Father. You can’t give away what you don’t have.
