Devo Humble or Arrogant
Reading Luke 15:11-32
This is the story of the prodigal son or is it? We westerners think that the prodigal son was repented and humbled himself and went home to his father. That is not true at all. Looking at the story line we see the prodigal son went home because he was hungry and in need. He did not have in mind to obey his father but to work for him. He was only sorry the song and dance had ended him up in this pig pen. It is the father who humbles himself and runs to his son and accepts him back and then the son"s heart melts towards his father. Then the other son has an attitude that dad owes him the world because he stayed home. One reason many don’t get their prayers answered. Dad didn’t owe him anything, but out of love and mercy the father humbles himself and goes out to the son and loves him home. This is not a story about the son or sons. It is a story about the character of our heavenly Father. His love, mercy, compassion, and humility. Most people come to the father out of need not humility, true repentance, or love for the father, but true repentance comes after the Father accepts them back and reinstates them. WHAT A GOD WE SERVE. Who can speak of His love for us?
