Devo It is time to grow up in the Faith Part Three
Hebrews 5:11-14 (NIV) 11 We have much to say about this, but it is hard to make it clear to you because you no longer try to understand. 12 In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God’s word all over again. You need milk, not solid food! 13 Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. 14 But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.
1 Corinthians 13:11 (NIV) 11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me.
I am a father of four children. You watch your children grow up and you have to discipline them, but according to their maturity level and understanding. You also give them responsibilities according to their maturity level and understanding. You don’t hand car keys to a twelve year old and send them on an errand. You don’t ground a One year old from going out. They have to mature into responsibilities. The problem comes when they don’t grow up. Interestingly enough the most important ingredient in maturing is love. In Afghanistan after their last war they had many orphans that were put in state run institutions. They gave them everything they needed to live so they thought, and yet they remained like babies. They as teen agers couldn’t talk, walk, and so forth. Can you imagine what it would be like to have an army of these grown babies. They did a study on these children and found all they needed was love. God is love and it is love that spurs us on to mature in Christ so we can overcome the enemy. For us to know good and evil we must know love. The only way to separate good from evil is to know love and that good comes from love. How can I do the good I need to do? First I must know what good is. Stick with me now.
