Devo Lessons from the wedding at Cana Lesson 1
John 2:1-3 (NIV)
2 On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there, 2 and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. 3 When the wine was gone, Jesus’ mother said to him, “They have no more wine.”
Jesus went to the wedding. Why is that important? Here is a wedding and we don’t know who is being married and Jesus was invited and went. Obviously he thought it important to be there. When you see the Son you see the Father. God shows up at weddings, but why. A marriage is a covenant with God between a man and a woman. They are covenanting with God to stay married with this partner for life. It is not a contract where any party can break it. You see in a covenant all parties have to agree to break the covenant not just one and God is not a man that he should change His mind. The only reasons for breaking a marriage that I see is marital unfaithfulness and abuse. Divorce is the separating of living together not the end of the marriage in the Bible. That is why Jesus says anyone who marries a divorced woman commits adultery. Anyway the point is God shows up at weddings. It is a sacred assemble, a social event with witnesses.
