Devo Prosperity Part 3
Psalm 18:25 (NIV)
25 To the faithful you show yourself faithful,
Let’s fast forward to many years later and four children. Becky and I were doing well. Three story house by the gulf, BMW, very comfortable. We were not rich but doing well. We had several rental homes, a construction company, dump Truck Company and pastoring a small church. We had started several churches. Then the economy turned. Within three months we lost the dump truck company. Then the construction company. We were going to church Sunday morning and there was a man putting a notice on the building we were renting. He told me this would be our last service and that the owners were not paying the mortgage. We could not find another building to lease. I was over a half million in debt to the companies I had had. I felt a bit forsaken. I started selling insurance and was bewildered by it all. Where was God in all this? Then I was riding with my boss and we were hit from the rear and my neck was broken. Now I have been told if things are bad that’s life, worse Satan is trying to destroy you, but if life becomes unreasonable God is at work. I decided God must be at work, because this was off the chart. We went to three bankruptcy attorneys all of which told me we had to file by December and that we would lose everything, even our house which in Florida is not supposed to happen. God did not heal my neck but told me to have surgery. That destroyed what little pride I had left. Then I got a call from a former member of our church who said she had put an application in for me for a chaplain job at a nursing home. I got the job and loved it and my people, but the bankruptcy was coming. I fell before God and repented and asked for help. He told me to divide a small settlement I’d received with my creditors, about 9%, and that they would forgive the rest and they did. Then I owed $240,000 in taxes, but God intervened again. To make a long story short we got back $6200. Sorry for lack of details. We were never so prosperous in our lives. We were happy. Becky came to lead worship at the nursing home with me. We were in God’s will. No better place to be. I would have never took that nursing home job if I had not gone through all I had. Too proud. Sad but true. God can humble the proudest hearts in His love and give us what we need not what we think we want. Stay tune more to come.
