Devo Rebellion and walking with God
1 Samuel 15:22-23 (NIV)
22 But Samuel replied:
“Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices
as much as in obeying the Lord?
To obey is better than sacrifice,
and to heed is better than the fat of rams.
23 For rebellion is like the sin of divination,
and arrogance like the evil of idolatry.
Because you have rejected the word of the Lord,
he has rejected you as king.”
This is one of the more familiar rebellions in the Bible and we could learn much from it. I have taught on this before, but I will go deeper into this scripture over a series of teachings. Saul was told to go up and wipe the Amalekites off the face of the earth because they waylaid the people of God as they came out of Egypt. Saul does not do what God told him to do saying he was afraid of the people and listen to them. God is not interested in our sacrifices to Him as much as obeying Him. We are to obey Him without question. You can’t separate obedience from faith and without faith it is impossible to please God. If you love Him you will obey Him. God calls disobedience rebellion and put it with some unseemly characters. Why? Let’s look at that next.
