Devo Walking in faith Part 9
Romans 4:16-21 (NIV)
16 Therefore, the promise comes by faith, so that it may be by grace and may be guaranteed to all Abraham’s offspring—not only to those who are of the law but also to those who have the faith of Abraham. He is the father of us all. 17 As it is written: “I have made you a father of many nations.” He is our father in the sight of God, in whom he believed—the God who gives life to the dead and calls into being things that were not.
18 Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as it had been said to him, “So shall your offspring be.” 19 Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead—since he was about a hundred years old—and that Sarah’s womb was also dead. 20 Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, 21 being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.
2 Corinthians 12:9-10 (NIV)
9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. 10 That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
Why would I hope for what I already have? Abraham our father in faith faced the fact his body was dead to giving life, but God gave him a promise of having a child. Abraham in the weakness of his body had hope that God would fulfill His word to him and in faith went to his wife and she too being dead to giving life bore him a child. His faith was made perfect through weakness because it caused him to lean on God not his own understanding. He did not act on what he saw but on God’s word. It is through weakness in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, and in difficulties that we see substance to our faith. It is in trials. Daniel and friends submitted their lives to God and in trials God showed the world His glory. Many want to use faith as a means to get rich and heaping material things on themselves through their own lusts of the things of this world. They miss bringing many sons to glory. It is through the hardships we endure that God can show He is faithful to those who love Him and He delivers us from death to life so that others might be saved.
