Devo Consequences Part 5
John 3:18 New International Version (NIV)
18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.
Romans 8:31-35 New International Version (NIV)
31 What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? 33 Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. 34 Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?

We stand condemned by the fact Christ lived a sinless life, but that was not His intent.  He came to save us. He is for us. He is still interceding at God’s right hand. God does not wish that any should perish, or He would not have sent His son.  The choice is ours. Do we accept Him or die from the bit of the serpent, sin? His love is never failing. Choose life.

Devo Consequences Part 4
John 3:17 New International Version (NIV)

17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.

Jesus didn’t come to send us to hell but to save us from hell but more than that to give us eternal life.  If He simply took away all the consequences for sin, we would have no reason to turn to Him. The curse was meant to save us from sin and for Him.  Like sickness is a forerunner to death so is the curse a taste of hell so we would not want to go there and turn to God. Pain tell us something is wrong, and we need help.  It is not a bad thing it is a warning. People who have leprosy can no longer feel pain. They don’t die of leprosy they usually die of infection. They cut or burn themselves and don’t feel pain and lose a limb.  If we did not feel the weight of sin, we would not know we need help. Consequences are there to save us from ourselves. God did not take all the consequences away from David for committing adultery so He would not continue in sin and destroy himself, his family and a nation.

Devo Consequences Part 3
John 3:16 New International Version (NIV)
16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Jesus became sin and the curse for us so that we would be justified before God.  He came to give us eternal life. Eternal life is not just living forever. People in hell will live forever.  Eternal life is to return to God, live in His presence where there will be fullness of Joy. It is to have all that is good for us. Hell is to live out of the presence of God in eternal torment.

Devo Consequences Part 2
John 3:14-15 New International Version (NIV)
14 Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up,[a] 15 that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.”

Just as the snake was lifted up or died on a pole.  Jesus took the punishment for us.  He has conquered Satan, the snake and the curse by becoming sin for us.  Look to Jesus to be saved from what ever you need saving from.  Sin, sickness, poverty, loneliness, the curse.

Devo Consequences Part 1

Numbers 21:4-8 New International Version (NIV)
4 They traveled from Mount Hor along the route to the Red Sea,[a] to go around Edom. But the people grew impatient on the way; 5 they spoke against God and against Moses, and said, “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? There is no bread! There is no water! And we detest this miserable food!”
6 Then the Lord sent venomous snakes among them; they bit the people and many Israelites died. 7 The people came to Moses and said, “We sinned when we spoke against the Lord and against you. Pray that the Lord will take the snakes away from us.” So Moses prayed for the people.
8 The Lord said to Moses, “Make a snake and put it up on a pole; anyone who is bitten can look at it and live.”

Many people who I deal with want the consequences of their actions taken away but there is no repentance.  They simply are too proud to admit they are wrong. God does not always take away the consequences but gives us a way out.  It starts with humility and repenting. The snakes were still there but if they were bit they had to look to God to be delivered.  Life is going to bit you sometimes, but God gives us a way out. Look to Jesus.

Fire Part 5

Devo Fire Part 5
2 Corinthians 3:12-18 New International Version (NIV)
12 Therefore, since we have such a hope, we are very bold. 13 We are not like Moses, who would put a veil over his face to prevent the Israelites from seeing the end of what was passing away. 14 But their minds were made dull, for to this day the same veil remains when the old covenant is read. It has not been removed, because only in Christ is it taken away. 15 Even to this day when Moses is read, a veil covers their hearts. 16 But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. 17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 18 And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.
Moses went up on the mountain where the fire of God was.  It was in that fire He saw God. The people could not look upon Moses’s face for it shined with the fire of God.  He went into the presence of God and was given the word and the understanding of that word so he might explain it the people.  They could not bare to look at God’s righteousness. I remembered when I was baptized in the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues.  When I read the Bible after this it was as though I had been trying to read the Bible in a pitch-black room. Now God turn the light on and it had been as though he is right there talking to be and explaining it.   The veil was removed and the fourth man showed up. That fire began to remove sin from my life. It is sin that separated us from God and stop our communication with Him. Now God is burning that up. Jesus’ blood cleansed me of sin, but His Holy Spirit and fire takes it out of my daily life.  You may be called but you must go through the fire to have it in your soul to preach it. Jeremiah describes it in this way: Jeremiah 20:9 New International Version (NIV)

9 But if I say, “I will not mention his word
or speak anymore in his name,”
his word is in my heart like a fire,
a fire shut up in my bones.
I am weary of holding it in;
    indeed, I cannot.

Devo Fire Part 4

Daniel 3:19-25 New International Version (NIV)
19 Then Nebuchadnezzar was furious with Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, and his attitude toward them changed. He ordered the furnace heated seven times hotter than usual 20 and commanded some of the strongest soldiers in his army to tie up Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego and throw them into the blazing furnace. 21 So these men, wearing their robes, trousers, turbans and other clothes, were bound and thrown into the blazing furnace. 22 The king’s command was so urgent and the furnace so hot that the flames of the fire killed the soldiers who took up Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, 23 and these three men, firmly tied, fell into the blazing furnace.
24 Then King Nebuchadnezzar leaped to his feet in amazement and asked his advisers, “Weren’t there three men that we tied up and threw into the fire?”
They replied, “Certainly, Your Majesty.”
25 He said, “Look! I see four men walking around in the fire, unbound and unharmed, and the fourth looks like a son of the gods.”

We should all know these three men of God.  Sad to say few know what they went through that led them to this moment.  They submitted themselves to God and obeyed His commands. They went through persecutions and the fire, and as a result ended up in Nebuchadnezzar’s fire, but they did not burn.  God had already burned the world and the things of this world out of them. There was simply nothing left to burn up in their lives, but God and He is a consuming fire. Nebuchadnezzar’s strongest soldiers could not stand the fire.  They simply were not prepared for this moment. They died and burned up, but our friends were in the presence of God and God revealed His presence through them. You fight fire with fire. The fire of God must be on you first and burn up the things of this world, so the fire of this world won’t lite upon you.

Devo Fire Part 3
Luke 17:29 New International Version (NIV)
29 But the day Lot left Sodom, fire and sulfur rained down from heaven and destroyed them all.

The moment the righteous man left Sodom God rained down fire to cleanse the earth of them and their sins.

Devo Fire Part 2
Numbers 31:21-24 New International Version (NIV)
21 Then Eleazar the priest said to the soldiers who had gone into battle, “This is what is required by the law that the Lord gave Moses: 22 Gold, silver, bronze, iron, tin, lead 23 and anything else that can withstand fire must be put through the fire, and then it will be clean. But it must also be purified with the water of cleansing. And whatever cannot withstand fire must be put through that water. 24 On the seventh day wash your clothes and you will be clean. Then you may come into the camp.”
Here we have the soldiers of Israel’s army coming back from battle with the plunder.  They were to cleanse everything before it could be put into used with water and fire. Even they themselves had to be cleansed before entering the camp.  It is safe to say that fire and water were to be used to remove all impurities from whatever they brought into the camp so it would not contaminate the people of God.

Now please stop and ponder that for a moment.
The flood was sent to cleanse the earth of sin.  We are to be baptized with water as a representation of the cleansing of our sins by the blood of Christ.  John came baptizing for the repentance of sin and yet He said Jesus will baptize with fire. Have you ever been burned?  You don’t soon forget it and you know when it happened. There is evidence of the experience. Jesus told the Apostles and disciples not to leave Jerusalem till they were baptized with that fire.  Jesus makes us fit for service. Just because you enlist into the army don’t mean you’re a soldier. You have to go through the fire. They remove everything that will hinder you for battle. You become one with the army.  The baptism in the Holy Spirit is to burn off the dross and make you fit for service. It’s no longer about you but you die to self for the body of Christ.

Devo Fire Part 1
Hebrews 12:29 New International Version (NIV)
29 for our “God is a consuming fire.”
Fire is the new subject for our devotionals.  God is a consuming fire. What does that mean to you?  Merriam Webster defines fire as:
1a(1): the phenomenon of combustion manifested in light, flame, and heat.
Combustion means burning or consuming.  If God is a consuming fire. He leaves nothing of the original state of something.  Think about it.
