Devo Honoring Mom and Dad part 1
Ephesians 6:1-3 New International Version (NIV)
6 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2 “Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise— 3 “so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.”
This is a commandment not a suggestion. We are to honor our father and mother all the days of our lives. Showing them respect for they brought us life and provided for us. I see no exceptions for this commandment in the Bible. It implies that if we don’t things will not go well for us. In fact it can bring a curse on us. Children in the old testament who dishonored their parents were to be stoned at the city gate. Rebellion is unto divination and witchcraft. It was to be purged from society. To obey and honor our parents brought an enjoyable long life, blessing, and things would go well for us. Think about this and honor your father and mother. Most of all it teaches your children to honor God the Father.

Devo God of all comfort
2 Corinthians 1:3-7 New International Version (NIV)
3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. 5 For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ. 6 If we are distressed, it is for your comfort and salvation; if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which produces in you patient endurance of the same sufferings we suffer. 7 And our hope for you is firm, because we know that just as you share in our sufferings, so also you share in our comfort.
Paul said think it not strange when these things come upon you. The Bible clearly tells us we will go through all kinds of trials and hardships. People are going to die. To each man is appointed a time to die. I am not at all saying that people won’t die prematurely or that it is God killing them off, but that we are all going to die sooner or later. It of course was not like this from the beginning, but man sinned and satan entered in. We thought and still think we know better than God how to run things. Nevertheless, God still brings comfort to us. He helps us in our weakness and tragedies by carrying us through. Moses had his cleft in the rock when leading the Israelites. Elijah had his angel in the desert. Abraham had his talks with God. Jesus had the angels minister to Him. It is through these trials and God carrying us through we learn how to be a comfort to others and can follow Christ example of obedience to the Father. If we lose our life, we will find it. In going through such trials and tribulations and overcoming we grow and empathize with others when they go through similar things. We become more and more like Him. We become more compassionate in our lives. Through the love of God, we become more loving of others not harder, more forgiving not hating, and more Christ like and less like the world. When walking in his love we see less as the world see humanity and see one people in the family of God. We value all life as in the image of God

Devo Our God He is Holy
Ephesians 5:11-12 New International Version (NIV)
11 Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. 12 It is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret.
1 Thessalonians 5:22 King James Version (KJV)
22 Abstain from all appearance of evil.
Leviticus 10:3 New International Version (NIV)
3 Moses then said to Aaron, “This is what the Lord spoke of when he said:
“‘Among those who approach me
I will be proved holy;
in the sight of all the people
I will be honored.’”
Aaron remained silent.
We serve a Holy God and he expects us to be a Holy people. We must be Holy to approach Him, so He has made us Holy as He is Holy through Christ Jesus. When Nadab and Abihu approached God in an unholy manner God would not allow their father or brothers to mourn their death, because they dishonored God. When we who are saved sin, we become a laughingstock to satan, demons and the world. Exodus 32:25 Moses saw that the people were running wild and that Aaron had let them get out of control and so become a laughingstock to their enemies. It is because of our sin they satan laughs and mocks us. It is because of the sin of God’s people the world mocks God. I often have people ask me if this or that was sin and is it ok? They will argue that drinking or some other sin is ok, but the Biblt yells us not only don’t sin but avoid the appearance of sin. If you have doubt or must ask don’t it become sin for you. In fact, it is a sin to mention what the world does in darkness. Don’t let careless words fall to the ground or you to may have evil desires in your heart the very rout of sin. These careless words may entice your children to want to try sin. I heard Christian parents bragging about their glory days of sin, but when their children started doing the same things they were petrified. Their son said dad I want to have fun too. You see dad and mom were still living in the sin of their past. They were proud of their exploits. This too is sin. Sin dishonors God and is a shameful thing and yet they were proud of what they did and were bosting of it even though they would not think of doing it now they enticed their children into trying it out. Don’t even mention it or the appearance of it. Bring glory honor to God in your home not your past life. Be a shamed of what you were and the children will notice. You see they will catch more from your life than what you teach them. Live it.

Devo Snake It’s what’s for supper
Numbers 21:4-9 New International Version (NIV)
4 They traveled from Mount Hor along the route to the Red Sea, to go around Edom. But the people grew impatient on the way; 5 they spoke against God and against Moses, and said, “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? There is no bread! There is no water! And we detest this miserable food!”
6 Then the Lord sent venomous snakes among them; they bit the people and many Israelites died. 7 The people came to Moses and said, “We sinned when we spoke against the Lord and against you. Pray that the Lord will take the snakes away from us.” So Moses prayed for the people.
8 The Lord said to Moses, “Make a snake and put it up on a pole; anyone who is bitten can look at it and live.” 9 So Moses made a bronze snake and put it up on a pole. Then when anyone was bitten by a snake and looked at the bronze snake, they lived.
Job 1:9-10 New International Version (NIV)
9 “Does Job fear God for nothing?” Satan replied. 10 “Have you not put a hedge around him and his household and everything he has? You have blessed the work of his hands, so that his flocks and herds are spread throughout the land.
God had been feeding and taking care of the Israelites since they left Egypt. He had put a hedge of protection around them. We can see in the passages from Job that a hedge is like a wall about them to keep satan, demons, and any pestilence from hurting whatever God is protecting. Satan knew he could not cross this hedge without God permission. So he sought God’s permission and it was granted. Now in the Israelites case it is different. Like a lion walking around a fence until he finds an opening to get in he circles waiting for the opportunity. The Israelites grant satan access by sinning against God. They complain and the hedge is removed. Satan does not ask for permission he enters freely when the hedge is dropped. You see the snake were always there. They didn’t suddenly appear they now can slither right into the camp. I have heard many a sermon on these passages, but few address the fact that the snakes were always there. God had kept them out of the camp. God had been protecting them all along. They did not know it. He protects us daily and we often don’t know He is there. Give Him the praise he deserves. They ask God to remove the snake but He does not. Instead He has Moses place a bronze snake on a pole and says anyone bitten by a snake can look to the snake and be healed. Jesus compares himself to this snake. John 3:14 Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, He does this because Jesus became sin and the curse for us setting us free from sin. He also became a hedge for. Luke 10:19 I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you. I think few people realize He gives us the power to trample the snake before it bits us.
We become the hedge. The snake head crusher. Praise God Almighty. He gives us the power to be the hedge. He looks for a man to be the hedge. Walk by faith and satan will flee. Trust me I have killed many a snake in the natural and the are full of fear. They rather run than die. They fear you more than you do them. Jesus becomes our hedge and that is why we plead His blood over ourselves. When satan bites you look to the Cross because Jesus paid for your healing.

Devo Incomplete Faith
Matthew 3:7-10 New International Version (NIV)
7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to where he was baptizing, he said to them: “You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath? 8 Produce fruit in keeping with repentance. 9 And do not think you can say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham. 10 The ax is already at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire. James 2:21-22 New International Version (NIV)21 Was not our father Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar? 22 You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did.
Don’t you find it strange that John attacks the religious leaders instead of the common everyday man or church goer. Faith is obeying God and God found their faith incomplete. When I was on TV I had a great lot of preachers seek me out. They suddenly came into my life out of nowhere. Now see they wanted to ride the coat tails of what they saw as popularity. I seldom hear from them now that I am off TV and I can’t remember one calling to see how I was. I wonder how many Pharisee and Sadducees went to see John when he was in prison. These people aren’t interested in the things of God. They aren’t willing to do the hard work and get into the trenches with John and Jesus and pay the price. The wanted to ride a wave of popularity to promote themselves. Be seen with the successful people.
Jude 11-13 New International Version (NIV)
11 Woe to them! They have taken the way of Cain; they have rushed for profit into Balaam’s error; they have been destroyed in Korah’s rebellion.
12 These people are blemishes at your love feasts, eating with you without the slightest qualm—shepherds who feed only themselves. They are clouds without rain, blown along by the wind; autumn trees, without fruit and uprooted—twice dead. 13 They are wild waves of the sea, foaming up their shame; wandering stars, for whom blackest darkness has been reserved forever.
They don’t produce fruit they eat it. They have been reserved for the fire.
Our faith is made complete by what we do. God called us to produce fruit. He said rend your hearts not your garments. Talks cheap but actions tell what is in a man’s heart. Faith without action is dead. Abraham was considered righteous for what he did not said. I love the Old Testament because we see what a man does in his life not just words. The two must line up to be complete faith not just words. Wake up church produce fruit we can’t ride into heaven on another man’s works. Our God is a consuming fire.

Devo So you know Jesus is for real
John 3:1-3 New International Version (NIV)
3 Now there was a Pharisee, a man named Nicodemus who was a member of the Jewish ruling council. 2 He came to Jesus at night and said, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the signs you are doing if God were not with him.”
3 Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.
Few scriptures have dumbfounded me more than what I read here. This is a Pharisee who know scripture inside out. This is all they study day and night. Now John 1:1-3 tells us Jesus is the God and He is the word. Nicodemus states that he and the Jewish ruling council know Jesus is from God and yet Nicodemus comes to Jesus alone and at night. He does not want to be seen and it became known he was with Jesus and yet he says they know Jesus is from God. I don’t know but were they stupid or what. Now I ask you if a messenger for God who was healing people, raising the dead showed up in your church or town and you knew he was from God would you not want to be seen with Him or at lease go hear Him? Keep in mind this is the bunch that will nail Jesus to the cross. Luke 17:20-21 King James Version (KJV) 20 And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation:21 Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you. Jesus declares we must be born again to see the Kingdom of God; you can’t just go out and look for it. It’s not even a thing. It’s a relationship. The Pharisee couldn’t handle that. They love to boast about what they knew or did. They thought it was by works. They wanted to earn it not humble themselves and repent. They were more interested in justifying themselves not repenting and being baptized. They never came to know Him because they were unwilling to repent. 1 Corinthians 15:50-54 King James Version (KJV) 50 Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption. 51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, 52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. 53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. 54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.
This flesh does not inherit the kingdom because we can’t make ourselves like Him. God does that through Christ. He makes us like Him perfect and transforms us. Don’t think you are just a good person and so you will be accepted. You must accept the Word Jesus first and repent then He will accept you and make Himself known to you.

Devo DO I have to speak in Tongues Part 1
James 3:2-3 (NIV)
2 We all stumble in many ways. Anyone who is never at fault in what they say is perfect, able to keep their whole body in check. 3 When we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we can turn the whole animal.
James 3:8 (NIV)
8 but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.
Matthew 12:33-35 (NIV)
33 “Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit. 34 You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of. 35 A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him.
The part of the brain that is in control of the tongue controls the whole person. Make it good and produce good fruit but make it bad produce bad fruit. Problem is sin dwell there, therefore it produces bad fruit. No man can control the tongue unless he controls the spirit of the man. We want to be a perfect man but cannot. As Paul says I can’t do the things I want to. Not at all saying we aren’t forgiven, just not in control of our actions. The Holy Spirit, when we submit to Him takes control. He burns the sin out of our lives. Jesus was driven by the Holy Spirit into the desert to overcome sin and temptation. It is the Spirit that leads us into situations to burn the sin out of our lives. (See Jacob, Joseph, Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego, Paul, Peter, so on). The Holy Spirit when given control takes over and leads us in God’s ways. He fills with power to overcome sin. Sin is the power of Satan in our lives. Power over sin is power over sickness, death, and the grave the last of which will be the grave. The Holy Spirit also show us what God’s plans are, for only the spirit of a person know what is in the heart. He reveals to us God’s direction for our lives. The Spirit is the bit in our months. The Holy Spirit will check us when we stray from God and redirect us to the right path like the pillar of fire for the Israelites.

Devo Do I have to speak in Tongues Part 19
Exodus 32:28-29 (NIV)
28 The Levites did as Moses commanded, and that day about three thousand of the people died. 29 Then Moses said, “You have been set apart to the Lord today, for you were against your own sons and brothers, and he has blessed you this day.”
Acts 2:38-41 (NIV)
38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.”
40 With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.” 41 Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.
2 Corinthians 3:6 (NIV)
6 He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant—not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.
When the word came on stone tablets down the mountain side it brought death and condemnation, so three thousand died in their sin that day. The law brings judgment and shows us we are all law breakers or sinners. It comes with glory but that glory only brings death to those who have sin. On the Day of Pentecost the word brought by the Spirit gave life to three thousand. The people that day were just as big of sinners as in the time of Moses, and maybe more so for they had heard the word over and over again. The Spirit giveth life. When the Spirit came on Peter he began to preach. The Spirit got a hold of Peters tongue and it brought life to the hearers. They heard the word and it produced faith. The received the word and were born again. It produced life. We need the Spirit of the word not just the letter only. When the word is spoken by the Spirit it sets us free.
