Devo God’s Comfort
John 14:1-4 New International Version (NIV)
14 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God[a]; believe also in me. 2 My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. 4 You know the way to the place where I am going.”
Sometimes it’s best to know the end of a matter. We are not always shown how we will get there but knowing in the end we will live in peace with Jesus forever is enough to get us through. Today will pass, but tomorrow with Him is forever. We will overcome.

Devo They did me wrong or I did them wrong
Matthew 5:22-24 New International Version (NIV)
22 But I tell you that anyone who is angry with a brother or sister will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to a brother or sister, ‘Raca,’ is answerable to the court. And anyone who says, ‘You fool!’ will be in danger of the fire of hell.
23 “Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother or sister has something against you, 24 leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to them; then come and offer your gift.
Forgive and you will be forgiven. Matthew 6:15 But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins. We seem to want to take that out of the equation. We walk around with a log in our eye that everyone can see but worry about a splinter in our brothers, eye. We quickly call others “raca” or empty headed when we are no better or worse and yet the sinless one forgave us. Bitterness is like yeast it will carry over onto all our relationships. Partly why second and third marriages don’t last as long as first. It’s like taking poison and expecting the other person to die. They may not even know you have a problem with them or care. Get it rectified. Forgive and don’t let them or anything else have that kind of power over you. It’s like dying repeatedly. Just simply humble yourself and forgive. Walk as Jesus walked. You can’t make others forgive you, but you can forgive them. Then they can answer to God, but you can be set free.

Devo I have fallen and can’t get up
Romans 5:3-5 New International Version (NIV)
3 Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; 4 perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5 And hope does not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.
I have a friend and whom up till recently has never seem to have gone through a hard time. Never had a major illness, financial trouble, death near him, injury, nothing that was a hard place or beyond anything a person could handle. He can be reckless at times and careless with his life and others, because he does not know how fragile life can be. I on the other hand I seem to have made a hobby of being in places where it is beyond my control to fix it. He is going through a time with a beloved daughter and can’t control her. I have never seen a man try so hard to control a situation and fail so miserably. She seemed to have a mind of her own surprise! He says he does not believe in God but knowing him he has had no need for God up till now. It is almost humorous to watch God at work in his life. It so hard for such a man to humble himself before God. I on the other hand have lost site multiple time, been burned, taken to the brink of bankruptcy, had multiple injuries that should have left me disabled, and so on. I feel I am the more blessed man. God has taught me to humble myself before Him and as a result know Him. Not only know Him but lead others to Him. He has taken these situations in my life to bless others and lead them though theirs. I knew a man who never had a major illness, and in his later years of life got cancer. He should have lived, and most people would have, but he just did not have the stamina to fight it. He did not know how. The doctor told him he had cancer and he quit his job went home and in two weeks died. He just gave up. The doctor was astounded he died. He said there was no reason for him to die, but he gave in to the cancer and was gone. It’s the struggles in life that make the man or woman not the easy times. Anybody can die and give up, but it takes character to overcome. God has given us the promise land, but my friends there will be a fight. God will rescue you just humble yourself before Him. Better to fall before Him than to fall.

Devo Death is inevitable
1 Corinthians 15:56-58 New International Version (NIV)
56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
58 Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.
My cousin died yesterday just one year older than me and this verse came to me; “Ecclesiastes 7:2 It is better to go to a house of mourning than to go to a house of feasting, for death is the destiny of everyone; the living should take this to heart.” I took it to heart and pondered what would I do if I knew I had one more year to live? I have to admit I think about death often, because for the last 10 years or so I have been surrounded by so much of it. I have always been amazed how people prepare for so many things in life, college, jobs, marriage, having families, retirement and so on, but not death. I mean after all it’s coming, not to sound so morbid but it is. I have sat with people as they are dying and far more times than not it catches them by surprise. They are not prepared for it and have avoided the subject all together as though it won’t happen to them. Good luck with that. Death is a transition and a part of life. It is a continuation of life, but in a different form. This life is but a breath, but in death we can find eternal life or not. I have told my children many times this life is a test and only a test. It is but a pin prick of eternity. What we do in this life dictates the next. He who is faithful in small things is faithful with much. What will your master find you doing when He comes? Heaven is great provided you get there but getting there is only a part of it. What you do in this life will have everything to do with what you do in the next. Don’t wait till the last moment to prepare and get in. What a loss to you. Yes, getting in is important but what we will be doing in heaven is more important. (It’s not playing harps on clouds). Have you ever thought about what we will do there? I hope I can hold the course until He comes. “ 58 Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.”

Devo What’s this about Part 6
Genesis 1:1 King James Version (KJV)
1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
The subject of Genesis is not creation or man, it is God. Easterners do not talk or write like westerners. We begin with details and build up to the point thus the saying ‘get to the point’. On the other had easterners start with the point and give details. They give a lesser point and give more details and then another and give more. Gen. 1:1 God, Gen. 1:3 God said, Gen 2:4 ,account of heavens and earth, Gen 3:1 Satan and so forth.

Devo What’s this about Part 5
John 1:14 New International Version (NIV)
14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
Since we could not go to Him He came to us, had to be made like us in every way. Hebrews 2:17 NIV For this reason he had to be made like them, fully human in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people. Matthew 16:17 replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven. God Has revealed Himself through Christ, but it is God who must reveal this to us. Christ became flesh so we may know God. His word gives us life and faith so we may know God. “Faith comes by hearing and hear through the Word” It is through the spoken Word or as Paul says through the foolishness of preaching that we are save or come to know Him. We must eat of the tree of Life to be revived in Jesus. God does not just want to walk and talk to you He want us to be one with Him, in us.

Devo What’s this about Part 4
John 1:5 New International Version (NIV)
5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
Our eyes have receptors for light so we can perceive or sense light, but if they grow weak we see less light. God said Genesis 2:17 but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.” What it literally say is dying you will die. Which means dying spiritually you will die in the flesh. We were made not just physical beings but in God’s image spiritual beings. If we die spiritually we die physically. Now in the flesh I must eat to live, in the garden they had to eat of the tree of life to live, but because of sin they we cut off from this tree. Thank goodness we still have enough of God that we live and might know Him. The measure of faith. Where there is breath there is hope. We have trouble understanding Him because like growing old and slowly our bodies die we can no longer perceive like when we were young. Oh to be like little children and know see Him. Jesus is the tree of life and that’s why we must eat of Him to sustain our spiritual life. Sin is killing our spirit and body. Communion is taken to remind us to commune with Him. We must eat of His flesh and drink His blood to know Him. We will have the Tree of life once again in heaven forever.

Devo What’s this about Part 3
John 1:4 New International Version (NIV)
4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.
God made man in His image and breath life, Himself, His word into man. John 8:12 When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
He is the light that gives us light. Without the light, life of Jesus we die. Only with the light can we see God or know Him. It is by God’s word that all things came about and the living things became living and it is by God’s image or light in us that we may know Him. Animals are not made in His image therefore may know who He is but not know him, for us to know Him we must become as He is and become one with Him as Jesus is.

Devo What’s this about Part 2
John 1:3 New International Version (NIV)
3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. Everything we know, see, touch, taste, hear, and smell was created through and by Jesus. These came about because God said or spoke His Word. Hebrews 11:3 New International Version (NIV)3 By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.
These five senses were given to us so we may know about God through what He has made, but we were also made in the image of God so he gave us other senses so we may know Him. First lets understand created things.
Romans 1:19-20 New International Version (NIV) 19 since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. 20 For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.
God created all these things so we may know he exists and for our pleasure. I had to write a paper once for a college class and answer one question, which was “What is the highest form of intelligence?” I took this paper very seriously and went on my search. First, I thought faith was the highest for of intelligence because is simply takes all we know, and we come to a conclusion by which we act or live by. It is not knowing by what we see, but by what we can conclude using the information available to us, but then I soon came to a second conclusion. Love is the highest form of intelligence. I thought I was sure to be laughed at or get a bad grade but nevertheless I went with my answer. I got an A on the paper to my surprise. Why? Because Love goes beyond faith. God gave us the spiritual virtues of hope, faith and love to not just know about Him but to know Him. Hope and faith will pass away but love never fails or will disappoint us as it is eternal. Love is a knowing that transcends the natural and take us to the supernatural. We may be able to express our love through the other two virtues or qualities, but we can also also express hate. They simply are tools to gather or transfer information, but love is wisdom to transfer what we know to be true. It gives us ears to hear and eyes to see what others cannot. It is not simply a conclusion it is the knowing of the Word, God and His will and the capability to become like Him and die to the natural to express the supernatural to others. “It is the radiance of God’s Glory, the exact representation of His being sustaining all things by His powerful Word. It is to be like Him.

Devo What’s this about Part 1
John 1:1-2 New International Version (NIV)
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning.
I use this scripture in many sermons. It is foundational scripture for all we believe and what we base our faith on, without it we have confusion as to what our faith is all about. Jesus is the word spoken, written and living. He always was, is and will be. He is God. He was before all things and before He came to earth. His physical form was not the beginning of His existence nor the beginning of creation. He simply always was. He was with and is God before time began. The written word is Christ concealed, revealed to us, it is God’s will or potential of our faith, it can be released by faith and agreement with Him to bring forth substance in our lives, but to do so it must be spoken also.
Romans 10:10 New International Version (NIV)10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.
Hebrews 11:1-3 King James Version (KJV)11 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. 2 For by it the elders obtained a good report.
3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.
John 1:1 is the beginning of our faith.
