Devo Who do you say He is?
Matthew 16:13-20 New International Version (NIV)
13 When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?”
14 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”
15 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?”
16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”
17 Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven. 18 And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock, I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”20 Then he ordered his disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Messiah.
Who do you say Jesus is? Peter’s statement that Jesus was the Messiah and Son of the living God was and is the foundation of the church. It is this foundational statement that we are all saved and walk in authority. It is the statement that hell will not overcome us. This was revealed to Peter not through a man, but by God. It is a God kind of statement. Sometimes we know that we know what God says to us. No one can take that away. This is the starting place for our faith.
Romans 10:8-9 (NIV)
8 But what does it say? “The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,” that is, the message concerning faith that we proclaim: 9 If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
God puts His Word in your heart, and you receive it. How do we know, because out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. We say what’s in our heart. We are given God’s word which is Jesus, who is the key to God’s Kingdom. Jesus also said: “Acts 4:12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.” There is no other way to the authority, power, and glory of God. Just as Jesus could only do the will of the Father and could only speak what the Father said, so are we given that same Holy Spirit to bind and loose on earth and heaven the Father’s will. John 16:13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. Who is Jesus? “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” Who are you? Romans 8:17 Now if we are children, then we are heirs--heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.
You are His children and heirs. WOW!
